A proud Perth local has taken out the title of Australia’s best lawn in 2025. Morley resident Phil Gregory has spent seven years perfecting his wintergreen couch, mowing daily and nurturing the soil until it’s so healthy it barely needs watering. His secret? Happy soil, consistency and – surprisingly – letting people walk on it (just not the cars). Click here to take a look at his very impressive lawn and learn his secrets to keeping it looking that good.
Beware of parcel delivery scams this Christmas
On a more serious note, authorities are urging online shoppers to stay alert this Christmas. Parcel delivery scams are on the rise, with fake texts and emails pretending to be from major courier companies. These messages often include threats of fees or prompt you to click a link to ‘retrieve’ an undelivered package – a trap that can install ransomware on your device. If something seems off, don’t click, don’t download and always verify through the company directly. To learn more, click here.

Cash rate on hold in a unanimous end-of-year decision
|
The Reserve Bank delivered a steady finish to the year this week, unanimously voting to keep the cash rate on hold at 3.6 per cent. While inflation remains higher than the board would like, Governor Michele Bullock said holding firm for now gives the economy the best chance of returning to target sooner rather than later. With household budgets still feeling the pinch and spending patterns shifting as we move into the holiday season, all eyes are now on what 2026 may bring. Will stability continue, or could further changes lie ahead?

Perth housing market continues to climb in November
|
Perth’s housing market continued its upward trajectory in November, with both house and unit prices recording monthly gains and units again outpacing houses year-on-year. REIWA says the data – along with ultra-fast selling times – confirms the market remains very strong, particularly at price points near or below the median where competition is fiercest. Homes in this bracket are still attracting multiple offers and selling in days, highlighting the intense buyer demand that continues to define Perth’s more affordable suburbs.

There’s also an interactive tool that lets you see how your suburb – or the area you’ve been watching – performed.

The great Super divide between homeowners & renters
|
New research has revealed a stark retirement gap: Australians who retire as renters will need almost twice as much super as homeowners to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. Rising rents, higher living costs and the lack of housing security push retirees without property into a far more expensive financial position. This article breaks down the projected figures, explains why the divide is widening, and explores what this means for younger Australians who may never be able to afford to enter the property market.
