With doubts being cast over an interest rate reduction being announced next Tuesday (although nobody really knows until the announcement), it’s comforting to learn that Australian households are managing their mortgages comfortably at the moment according to the RBA’s most recent Financial Stability Review. The review also showed that even in the event of a major economic downturn, most mortgage holders would still be able to meet their mortgage commitments and have equity left over. The review highlights the resilience of Australians, particularly given most of us have felt the pinch of a higher cost of living in the years post COVID before finally getting some interest rate relief earlier this year. 10% growth on track for Perth housing
The latest outlook from Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) shows Perth’s median house price is set for around 10% growth for 2025, supported by strong buyer demand, low stock levels and improved borrowing conditions. Units are expected to perform even better (read the story to discover how much they've grown this year). With such strong selling conditions, now remains a positive time for sellers, while buyers should be ready to act quickly.

What’s a spare bedroom tax & who would it impact?
A proposal to introduce a 'spare bedroom tax' has stirred strong debate across Australia. The idea, raised at the recent Economic Reform Roundtable, suggests taxing homeowners with unused bedrooms to encourage downsizing and free up housing stock. If adopted, it could affect millions of Australians – many of them older homeowners in large family homes. While proponents argue it could help ease the housing crisis, critics say it unfairly penalises hardworking Australians who wish to stay in homes they’ve built their lives in.

Why the new beige is anything but boring
Move over grey – beige is making a sophisticated comeback. Designers are embracing this versatile neutral for its ability to create calm, light-filled interiors that feel both timeless and contemporary. The new beige isn’t flat or safe; it’s layered with warmth, texture and undertones of caramel, blush and sand. Whether paired with sleek modern finishes or natural materials like linen, timber and stone, it offers a soft backdrop that lets furnishings and artwork shine. If you’re thinking about refreshing your home, this understated shade could be the hero of your next project.
